Project Details
SAWI Project “Support and Accelerate Women's Inclusion”, is funded by the US State Department and the Middle East Partnership Initiative (MEPI), implemented by the American University of Beirut and BPWA is the local partner in Jordan. 

This project aims to work directly with a network of selected local employers to develop, improve, and implement inclusive hu man resource (HR) policies and practices for the better recruitment, retention, and promotion of women, with a focus on higher education, STEM, healthcare, and banking across eight countries - Tunisia, Algeria, Bahrain, Jordan, Lebanon, Morocco, Iraq, and Libya.

Project Objectives

Our mission is to enhance women's economic participation across the region by accomplishing the following objectives:

• Map the current Recruitment, Retention and Promotion Policies in the Arab MENA countries.
• Partner with employers to craft concrete action plans for responsible inclusion of women in the workplace.
• Create a network of MENA employers championing inclusion policies that will work to improve women's economic participation in the region.

Pioneering Change

SAWI project builds on the regional findings from CIBL’s work on The KIP Index Project, where an analysis of over a thousand employer surveys, hundreds of interviews with female employees, and hundreds of regional research reports was completed. With this base, SAWI focuses on strengthening the capacity of HR managers, and other organizational decision makers, to implement more gender-inclusive policies and practices across the formal economies of the region.
BPWA conducted the following activities in line with project goals and objectives in 2021-2022:

Mini-Certificate Program: "Translate your ideas into action" attracted 60 decision-makers.
Desk Review: Extracted over 60 reports on labor laws related to women's recruitment, retention, and promotion in Jordan, along with country-specific readings on recruitment, retention, and promotion policies in formal paid employment, as well as remittances and gender lens investing.
Research Paper: Summarized national labor laws relevant to women's recruitment, retention, and promotion in Jordan.
Data Collection

Published a Country Report summarizing national labor laws concerning women's recruitment, retention, and promotion in Jordan.
